BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

A seaman and his wife, a retired banker, were found dead in their residence at Hermelinda Homes Subdivision in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Station 7 chief, P/Capt. Elmer Bonilla, said the bodies of Rene and Jane Gargoles, both 67, were found by their nephew, Ryan Mark Pantanalago.

Bonilla said the nephew, who lives nearby, brought food for the couple but no one was answering his calls and all windows and doors were locked, prompting him to call for police and barangay assistance.

When authorities forced open the main door and went inside, they saw the old woman on her bed while her husband was also found dead in another room, Bonilla also said.

He said the couple could have died from natural causes because, according to their family, the man was suffering from a kidney disease while the woman was a cancer survivor.

Investigation showed that the couple had been living by themselves as they did not have any children.

Orlando, Rene’s brother and their other relatives refused to have the bodies autopsied as they were already convinced that they died of natural causes, the police said.

The police also ruled out possible foul play because there were no signs of forced entry, and no items were missing.*
