The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to convene the Bacolod Arts and Culture Council.
The resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang, SP chairman of the Committee on History, Arts and Culture, said City Ordinance No. 413, Series of 2006, or an “Ordinance establishing the Arts and Culture Council of Bacolod City, and mandating an annual Arts and Council Program in the City of Bacolod”, was amended on July 27, updating the composition of the membership of the BACC.
It said DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2017-133 of Sept. 29, 2017 enjoins all cities to legislate for the establishment of a Local Culture and the Arts Council, implement related projects and/or strengthen existing ones thereafter.
Bacolod City is endowed with various tourism enterprises, including but not limited to historical and heritage sites, religious icons and other tourism attraction, hotels, convention center, which if promoted and properly managed, could be tapped as prime economic booster of the city through a sustainable community-based social enterprise, cultural, historical and agri-eco tourism, the resolution said.
To ensure the promotion, protection, preservation of our historical and cultural heritage, revitalize our city’s artistic tradition and create opportunities for popularizing local art works, there is a need for coordination and cooperation of all stakeholders, it added.*
