The Young Lawyers Association (YLANO) of Negros Occidental entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Roman Catholic Bishop of Bacolod at the Bishop’s House in Bacolod City yesterday, for the purpose of providing free legal services to indigent members of the community.
MOA signing was led by Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon and YLANO chairperson Carmela Yasay Feria, in the presence of Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Neg. Occ. president Gerry Llena and Social Action Center Director Fr. Cris Gonzales.
The Bishop expressed his gratitude to the group of lawyers for offering their services to the Diocese.
Feria said YLANO is a newly formed group of young lawyers who aims to provide free legal services to indigent members of the church community who seek assistance from their respective parishes involving legal cases. Gonzales has noticed that there are abundant cases related to domestic abuse, violence against women and children, and land and property disputes.
Llena said they have various levels of programs within the IBP, but this is a perfect avenue for young lawyers to extend their expertise to the entire community.*
