Pink-clad supporters of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo joined the nationwide “Palugaw ni Leni,” serving more than 12,000 bowls of rice porridge in 13 cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental.

From fancy set-ups to mobile trisikad reaching inner roads, Kakampinks went all-out, exceeding their initial target of 5,000 lugaw bowls by more than double, according to Pinky Ocampo, spokesperson of the Laban Leni Negros Occidental (LLNO).

Ocampo said they consolidated the figures submitted by its members coming from various groups including Negros Youth for Leni, Team Leni Robredo, Victorias Para Kay Leni, Kabataan Para Kay Leni Silay, Lenitarians and individual volunteers among others.

She added that more than 4,000 beneficiaries were served with rice porridge, pink pandesal, pink juice in 11 barangays of Bacolod City.

“Volunteers also conducted teach-ins, gave out posters, komiks and flyers so people will get to know who our chosen candidates are,” Ocampo said.

The atmosphere was festive based on the pictures various groups sent and some volunteers even danced on the streets as they distributed packed bread, she added.

In Silay City, the Kabataan para kay Leni Robredo were able to serve 2,000 beneficiaries in eight areas while Victorias for Leni volunteers also exceeded their target, serving over 2,300 people in various barangays while TeamLeni Saravia volunteers in EB Magalona also served 150 people in their community.

La Carlota City Kakampinks set-up a stall at the Public Plaza and were able to share their goods with 800 beneficiaries. Some volunteer groups opted to give out pink puto and pink siopaos.

Other participating local government units were in southernmost Hinobaan town (250 served), Sipalay City (400), Kabankalan City (450) and Bago City with 200 bowls given out.

In the north, volunteers in Manapla town served 500 beneficiaries in four areas, 300 in the town of Toboso, 500 in San Carlos City, while in Murcia town, 300 were also served.*
