The PNP Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 yesterday reported two members of the New People’s Army gave up the armed struggle and surrendered firearms and explosives to its 705th Manuever Company in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.

The identities of the two surrendered rebels have been withheld by the RMFB 7 for security reasons.

They surrendered two rifle grenades, a .45 caliber pistol with two magazines containing ammunition, two magazines of M16 rifle with ammunition, among other war materials, according to a report of the RMFB 7.

On the other hand, the 11th Infantry Battalion and the Santa Catalina local government unit, are now facilitating the requirements for the transport of the cadaver of Jonard Salo to his hometown in Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Salo, with aliases Lino/Rapid and Nikko, team leader of the remnants of dismantled South East Front, died in an encounter with 11IB troops in Sitio Tulong, Barangay Enrique Villanueva in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, on April 14.

“It is unfortunate that he was bearing arms against the government for a quite long time. It is a sad to note that his life ended this way,” Lt. Col.  Roderick Salayo, 11IB commander, said.*
