Four elderly women were killed when a vehicle rammed into a store in Barangay Bae, Jimalalud town, Negros Oriental yesterday morning.
The police identified the victims as Lydia Garsula, 80, of Barangay Panglaya-an, Herminilda Gantalao, 76, of Barangay Tamao, Milagros Garsula, 82, of Barangay Bae, and Remedios Fabillar, 65, of Brgy. Panglaya-an, all in Jimalalud.
P/Col. Bryant Demot, police provincial director, said the four elderly women were having coffee in the store beside the road when a pick-up truck crashed into the store, “causing them to sprawl to the ground while others to the canal”.
Two of the victims were brought to the Jimalalud Rural Health Unit where they were declared dead, while the other two were rushed to the Guihulngan City District Hospital but they were also pronounced dead.
Demot said the Isuzu D-Max, with a temporary plate, was driven by businessman Roberto Lim, 62, of Barangay North Poblacion, who was rushed to ACE Medical Doctors in Dumaguete City.
The police are still investigating the incident.*
