The Police Regional Office 6 reported yesterday that it recovered 993 assorted guns in Western Visayas, with the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office recorded the highest number of persons arrested for illegal possession of firearms, within the first four months of 2022.

Of the 195 violators all over Western Visayas, 78 of them were accounted for in Negros Occidental, including 11 in Bacolod City, according to regional police spokesman PLt. Col. Arnel Solis.

Solis said that of the 993 firearms accounted for, 809 were surrendered to the police, 172 confiscated, while 12 were abandoned by their owners.

He added that 316 guns with expired licenses, were also turned over for safekeeping to different police units, pending renewal of their licenses.

PBrig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, regional police director, commended all police commanders and their personnel for their focused efforts in the implementation of the firearms law.

Despite the accomplishments, Dongbo encouraged a continuing effort against the proliferation of loose firearms, including but not limited to checkpoint operations, Oplan Katok and application of Search Warrants, among others.*
