BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

Health protocol violators in Bacolod City rose to 31,724, as of Sunday, P/Lt. Col. Lester Leada, head of the City Police Office Operations Branch, said yesterday.

Of the number, 7,358 were nabbed for violating the curfew, 3,111 for not following social distancing of at least a meter, and 3,728 defied the liquor ban, Leada said.

He said 10,521 were caught not wearing face masks and 7,006 with no face shields while in public places.

The highest number of health protocol violators reprimanded was from May 31 to August 1 at 11,223, with 2,377 caught defying the curfew hours, 5,733 for not wearing face shields and masks, 1,351 for not maintaining the social distance, and 1,762 for liquor ban violation, the Bacolod City Police Office records showed.

Leada said the violators were not taken into custody but were given citation tickets and warned, adding that they have intensified their operations following the detection of the Delta variant of Covid-19 in Bacolod.

Leada reminded the public anew to abide by minimum health protocols to avoid getting fined or being made to do community service.

Those caught violating the health protocols were fined P200 each if they are from Bacolod, and P300 for out-of-towners, based on a city ordinance, he said.*
