Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez is pushing for the promotion of creative industries development, as an engine of post-pandemic economic recovery and national pride before the House Committee on Appropriations.
Benitez, who is the vice-chair of the Committee on Creative Industries, with Rep. Christopher de Venecia as chair, co-sponsored the bill in promoting the development of creative industries.
The proposed law will establish a council responsible for promoting the development of creative content and protecting the works from intellectual property rights encroachment.
Creative industries produce cultural, artistic, and innovative goods, products, and services.
Benitez said that the Philippines is rich in creative economy.
In his explanatory note for House Bill 8101, De Venecia said, “Without the fundamental legislative reform that rationalizes government support to the creative industry, there is little to no chance that the road map as charted by the Department of Trade and Industry as well as the Creative Economy Council of the Philippines could succeed.”*
