Leptospirosis, dengue cases up in Bacolod City

The Bacolod City Health Office recorded one death each for suspected leptospirosis and measles rubella in Bacolod City as of January 21.

Meanwhile, it recorded a total of 29 dengue cases in Bacolod City with zero deaths as of January 21.

The figure is 52.6 percent higher than the recorded cases last year, covering December 31, 2022 to January 21 this year, which totaled 19 with zero deaths.

The barangays with recorded dengue cases are: Granada, Estefania, Mandalagan, and Vista Alegre with 3 cases each; Alijis, Tangub, Mansilingan, and Taculing – 2 cases each; and Brgy. 2 and Pahanocoy with 1 case each.

On the other hand, the CHO has recorded four reported suspected leptospirosis cases in Bacolod with one death.

The total number of cases is 300 percent higher than the reported cases last year which is one, who passed away.

The barangays in Bacolod with reported suspected leptospirosis cases are Bata, Estefania, Punta-Taytay, and Taculing, with one case each.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection acquired through contact with food, water or soil contaminated by urine or any body fluids of infected animals, especially rats.

The CHO also recorded two suspected measles/rubella cases in the city with one death.

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus which can result in epidemics and cause deaths, especially among young and malnourished children. 

The CHO also recorded 16 suspected hand, foot and mouth disease in Bacolod City which is a common childhood infectious illness caused by Coxsackie virus, as well as one suspected cholera case.*
