The son of a municipal town mayor and two others were arrested by the police during a buy bust operation on August 17 at Luzuriaga Street in Brgy. 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, yielding an estimated P102,000 worth of suspected shabu.
Nabbed were Chito Atienza, the subject of the buy bust operation, Rosalia Nemenzo and Nestor Era Jr., son of Calatrava Mayor Marilyn Era, as confirmed by deputy police chief PLt. Ruby Aurita.
Aurita said that Atienza, 46, was the subject of a buy bust operation, whose initial arrest yielded a sachet of suspected shabu, while Era, 40, and Nemenzo, 60, were tagged as alleged drug users.
The police seized an estimated 15 grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P102,000.
Aurita said that a sachet of suspected shabu was recovered from Era, while two suspected sachets of alleged shabu, a piece of rolled aluminum foil and a flashlight were taken from Nemenzo.
On the other hand, 10 sachets of suspected shabu and its assorted paraphernalia and P600 marked money were seized from Atienza, police records show.
Aurita said that Era and Nemenzo were arrested inside the house of Atienza, where clients are allowed to take illegal drugs.
PLt.Col. Jesus Mesahon, San Carlos City police chief, said that Era and Nemenzo are not included in the police drug watchlist of personalities involved in the illegal drug trade.
Mesahon, however said both will subjected to drug testing.
Mayor Marilyn Era said that she was not remiss in reminding her son to be mindful of his actions.
If he has violated the law, he needs to face the consequences, Era said in a statement, as she can do nothing about it, but to accept the sad truth of what happened to her son.
“Though my role as a parent is still there and I will help him if could since he is my son, but I do not condone his actions,” the mayor stressed.*
