BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

All police chiefs in Negros Occidental have been ordered to strictly implement the temporary closure of all cemeteries, memorial parks and columbaries from October 30 to November 2.

The order was issued by PCol. Romy Palgue, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, as he assured Negrenses that the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is all set to secure the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days in the province.

Despite the temporary closure of cemeteries, Palgue also ordered police chiefs to establish Public Assistance Desks (PADs) as early as October 25, noting that many may opt to visit their departed loved ones earlier to avoid the closures.

He reminded Negrenses that only 20 percent capacity of cemeteries and memorial parks will be allowed for visits, prior to mentioned dates, in order to observe minimum health protocols.

Palgue also said that the PADs will remain until November 4.

He added that police beat patrollers and covert personnel will also be deployed to maximize security coverage, while traffic police personnel and road safety marshals will manage the traffic and secure the roads for travelers, with augmentation from force multipliers.

Palgue also asked the cooperation of the public, stressing also that the protection of people from all forms of crime, aside from COVID-19, is prime concern of the police.*
