President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. yesterday visited the wake of slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in Dumaguete City.
Marcos has condemned the killing of Degamo and eight others on March 4 at his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, that also caused the injuries of 17 others, as he vowed that his administration will do everything in its power to bring those behind the killing to the bar of justice
“I am warning all those involved in this killing: you can run but you cannot hide. We will find you. If you surrender now, it will be your best option,” the President said.
Marcos had said that the governor’s killing was “purely political” and “particularly terrifying” incident that “cannot go unpunished.”
In a statement, the Department of Justice said that all the four arrested suspects involved in the shooting incident have expressed their intention to cooperate, and their issued statements are now being verified.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla also said that he is confident of unmasking the mastermind involved in the killings.
“I only have read the preliminary statements that were done and I can say that the end is near,” Remulla said.
PLt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of the PNP Special Investigation Task Group, disclosed in a regular press briefing at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said that they have already secured sworn affidavits of five of the 13 remaining injured victims at various hospitals in Dumaguete City.*
