A farmer and a security guard were reported yesterday by the police to have been killed by still unidentified suspects in Himamaylan City and Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The lifeless body of Edwin Trestiza, a 69-year-old farmer who succumbed to multiple hack wounds, was discovered by another farmer, whose identity has been withheld by the police, at Sitio Curoman in Sitio Saisi, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City.

The Himamaylan City Police Station has already requested a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death of Trestiza, whose cadaver now lies at a funeral home in Himamaylan City.

A day earlier, an unidentified gunman also shot and killed a security guard identified by the police as Ely Marcellana in Brgy. Minapasok, Calatrava, also in Negros Occidental.

The suspect, whose identity has yet to be established by the police, turned out to be a back rider of Marcellana.

PMaj. Lumyaen Lidawan, Calatrava police chief, yesterday said the victim and the suspect, were both riding a motorcycle on their way to the barangay proper when the shooting incident took place.

Marcellana succumbed to a gunshot wound at the back of his head, with the bullet also penetrating into his right eye.

Prior to the shooting incident, the victim and the suspect figured into a fight, initial police investigations said.

Lidawan said that the suspect fled using the motorcycle and helmet of the victim.

Witnesses are also afraid to share information to the police, for security reasons, he added.

Recovered from the scene of incident by the police were two fired cartridges of a 9mm pistol.*
