Sen. Francis Tolentino*

Senator Francis Tolentino will be the guest of honor of the opening of the 27th Sinigayan Festival, at the Sagay City Public Plaza, in Negros Occidental, today, March 15.

The festival is back to face-to-face activities, after three years of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tolentino, together with Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson are expected to arrive during the opening program at the plaza, and will lead the opening of the Sinigayan festival villages, together with Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr., Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, Neg. Occ. 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon, III, and city councilors.

These festival villages are “Bugay-Sagay Agro-Aqua Festival Village,” which features the products and produce of the 25 barangays of Sagay City, “Dagway Sagay Arts and Culture Festival Village,” which features the local artists and their works, “Taliambong Food Festival Village,” at Taliambong Activity Center which features various heritage dishes of different restaurants and cafes in the city, and “Livestock and Poultry Fair & Exhibits” beside the Sagay City Government Center, which features the livestock and the best practices of Sagaynon farmers.

Bugay-Sagay and Dagway-Sagay villages are located in the old transport terminal fronting Maria Lopez Elementary School.

Before the opening program, floats from various public and private institutions will be paraded around major city highways and thoroughfares as part of the Sinigayan Floats Competition.

This year’s theme is “We Listen… We Act Together” as it challenges the government and stakeholders to be more sensitive to the needs of the city and Sagaynons.

Aside from the opening ceremony, this 5-day celebration will be highlighted by Sinigayan Queen presented by Sagay “Sigay” Jaycees and Miss SiniGAYan pageants, livestock competition and seminars, cultural events at the villages and taliambong, sports events around the city, and the “Saot Para Sa Dunang Manggad” Streetdance and Arena Competition on the last day of the festivities on March 19 in partnership with Association of Barangay Captains,  Sagay Water District,  Rotaract Club of Sagay Sinigayan, Community Affairs Office and SICADA.

Artists and celebrities like Gigi de Lana and Gigi Vibes Band, Silent Sanctuary, I Belong to the Zoo, Max Sy, and Hanna Villame are slated to perform during the festival.*
