The Sipalay City government informed the public that the Facebook account of Mayor Gina Montilla-Lizares was hacked on February 3 and was being used by a hacker to solicit money.

This prompted the city government of Sipalay to enlist the help of the National Bureau of Investigation in identifying the suspects behind it.

Sipalay City was among the local government units in southern Negros devastated by typhoon Odette.

The Sipalay City government said that the Facebook account of Mayor Maria Gina Montilla-Lizares was hacked Feb.3, two days before the arrival of presidential bet Vice President Leni Robredo, who led the distribution of temporary shelter kits to 50 typhoon-affected families in Brgy. Gil Montilla, Sipalay City.

The concerned local government unit urged the public to ‘disregard any communication or request from the Facebook account named “Gina Montilla” as it is currently used by the hacker.’

“Kindly confirm, report, and send us a screenshot of this particular Facebook account if you have received messages asking for money or donations,” it added.

Three persons reportedly sent money to someone using the account of the mayor, two of which sent P15,000 and P27,000, respectively.*
