The composition of the Truth Commission tasked to look into previous transactions at the Bacolod City Hall, as demanded by the public in the spirit of transparency, is now completed, disclosed Mayor-Elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez on Saturday.
Composed of professionals and to be led by former state auditor, Mayor-Elect Alfredo Benitez said that commission will not only look into past transactions at the City Hall, but will also recommend the proper conduct of accounting procedures and how to make it more transparent.
The Bacolod City-elect mayor, however refused to elaborate on the identity of the Truth Commission chairman.
Benitez, who will take his oath of office as the new local chief executive of Bacolod City on July 1 at the New Government Center, said that he will officially introduce members of the commission on June 28.
Unfazed by the creation of the Truth Commission, outgoing Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said that he has nothing to hide.
“Our administration has always tried its best to follow rules and we follow what is required by law, by the Commission on Audit,” Leonardia pointed out.
“But of course, if you are a politician, things like this can also be misinterpreted as witch-hunting, a demolition job. We all know and understand that but we have nothing to hide. Let it go, where it may go. No problem with that,” Leonardia said.*
