The Highway Patrol Group in Negros Occidental will start apprehending today pillion riders of motorcycles that have no barrier.
P/Capt. Robelito Mariano, HPG-Negros Occidental head, said yesterday that they have conducted an information dissemination and warned motorists about the new rule up to yesterday, and will start implementing the “no barrier, no back-ride” policy today.
Authorities said the barrier is part of the minimum health protocol to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease.
The barrier should be similar to the prototype of Bohol and Angkas, as approved by the national Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19, Mariano said.
Only married couples or live-in partners are allowed for pillion riding, he said.
Aside from the marriage contract and certification from the barangay that the riders are living together, they may also present identification cards bearing the same address, Mariano said.
Violators will be apprehended for reckless driving and will be fined P2,000 that should be settled with the Land Transportation Office, he added.*
