Former ABS-CBN Bacolod journalists launched an online news platform, Digicast Negros, over the weekend, days after the embattled TV network shut down its local stations on August 31.

Romeo Subaldo, the news chief then of ABS-CBN Bacolod, Barbara Mijares, former desk editor and “TV Patrol Negros” anchor, along with former reporters Marty Go and Martian Muyco, chose to continue serving the public by starting their own news platform on social media site Facebook.

The page, https://web.facebook.com/digicastnegros, that went live on Saturday, quickly gained a following and has already breached the 5,000-mark yesterday.

The group carried over the Hiligaynon-language news, a brand they were known for in the community.

Subaldo said the public needs credible news, especially during this time of the pandemic.

He said there was no pressure among the group to submit stories, but they contribute news every day as they are still starting their page.

He said there was overwhelming support from the community when they launched the online news platform.

Digicast, coined from the words “digital” and “newscast”, will also launch its news website and YouTube channel, he added.

ABS-CBN Bacolod, along with the other local stations around the country, aired their final broadcast over social media on August 28 as the network ceased operations in the provinces and laid-off workers following the non-renewal of its franchise.

The 81 ABS-CBN Bacolod employees lost their jobs on August 31.*
