Murcia renews twinning pact with Baguio City

Murcia and Baguio City officials, led by Mayor Gerry Rojas and Mayor Benjamin Magalong, respectively, acknowledge that the renewal of their sisterhood pact is a great opportunity for both LGUs to share best practices and contribute their experience and expertise in developing further each LGU’s trade, agriculture and eco-tourism.*

The Municipality of Murcia, led by Mayor Gerry Rojas and Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura, together with Sangguniang Bayan Members and department heads, renewed the sisterhood ties with the City of Baguio, led by its Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Vice-Mayor Faustino Olowan, Sangguniang Panlungsod Members and department heads.

The renewal of the memorandum of agreement, which was initially signed between the two Local Government Units way back in June 1, 2006, was conducted last October 7 at the Baguio Country Club, Baguio City, as part of the trip for the formulation of Murcia’s Executive-Legislative Agenda at Baguio City.

According to the press release, Rojas invited Baguio City officials and businessmen to visit Murcia and explore the investment opportunities in the town. He also informed them that Murcia is a fast-growing municipality, which has a developing industry in coffee-growing, flower-growing and eco-tourism. Murcia can benefit from Baguio’s knowledge and expertise in these fields.

For his part, Magalong said that the renewal of sisterhood is a good opportunity for both LGUs to share best practices, as Baguio City officials can learn from Murcia officials, while Murcia officials can also learn from Baguio City officials.

Magalong further said that the city will help Murcia in creating its own smart city system, because Baguio is a pioneering city in terms of technology.

Baguio has the first-of-its kind smart city command platform, soon to be implemented smart mobility transportation system which will allow the use of artificial intelligence in managing all aspects of the traffic system, first digital transformation center in the country which will host the first Information and Communication Technology academy, first national offsite data center, and home of smart city command center and smart mobility transportation system in the country.*
