NegOcc logs more dengue deaths

More dengue related deaths were logged in Negros Occidental and highly urbanized Bacolod City, as cases also increased further, records of the Department of Health Western Visayas show.

Of the nine additional dengue related fatalities in Western Visayas, three were recorded in Negros Occidental and one in Bacolod City, from July 17 to 23, according to DOH-WV reports.

Negros Occidental has now 14 deaths due to dengue and Bacolod City has seven.

For the same period, dengue cases in the province also went up by 221, bringing to 2,747 the total number cases from January to July 23 this year, an increase of 941 percent compared to 233 in the same period the previous year.

On other hand, Bacolod City has 443 dengue cases after an additional 30 cases were reported from July 17 to 23.

Dengue cases in Western Visayas are now nearing the 8,000, as DOH WV recorded the highest number of newly reported deaths at nine, which includes three in Antique and two in Iloilo province, aside from the four in Negros Occidental. The number of fatalities for the period of January to July 23 this year increased to 46.

DOH WV reported 704 new dengue cases in the region, bringing total cases this year to 7,825, an increase of 518 percent compared to 1,277 cases over the same period last year.*
