The province of Negros Oriental is expected to receive a poultry module worth P980,000 from the Department of Agriculture (DA) for some of the 28 identified farmer associations.

With this, DA has distributed poultry modules to poultry farmer-raisers in the province to recover from the devastation caused by typhoon Odette.

According to Livestock Focal Team Voltaire Amper of DA-7, the distribution which started in Cebu, is worth P6.08M.

Each farmer’s organization will receive one poultry module which consists of 100 heads of chicks, five sacks of feeds, net, vitamins, and sakolin or trapal.

More than 170 farmers’ associations have been identified in Cebu, 56 farm groups in Bohol worth P1.96M, and 28 associations in Negros Oriental and Siquijor worth P980,000 each.

Susan Aparri, president of the Nagkahiusang Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries sa Bahay Sibonga and one of the recipients of the project, expressed her gratitude as the association can start anew the poultry production and recover from the devastation of typhoon Odette.

The distribution is part of the quick response fund (QRF) of the DA7 to farmers and livestock raisers whose facilities and production were wrecked by the said typhoon.

The identification of the beneficiaries under the QRF program was verified by the local government units and the post-disaster validation team created by the DA7.

The recovery program for the livestock sector is significant in reviving the said sector which plays an important role in the agriculture economy of Central Visayas, Amper added.*
