The Department of Health-Western Visayas has reported that 136 barangays in Region 6, have clustering of dengue cases.

DOH-WV records show that Negros Occidental topped the list of provinces and highly-urbanized cities in Region 6, with the highest number of clustering in dengue cases at 66, followed by Antique – 39, Bacolod City – 12, Iloilo – 10, Capiz – 4, Iloilo City – 3 and one each in Aklan and Guimaras.

Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have risen to 984 cases from January to June 4, an increase of 456 percent compared to the same period last year, while highly-urbanized Bacolod City has 190 total cases, or a 129 percent increase.

Total dengue cases in Western Visayas was reported by DPOH-WV at 2, 520, with Negros Occidental still on top of the list with having the greatest number of dengue cases, with five deaths, excluding four in highly urbanized Bacolod City.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday reiterated his call for Negrenses to be vigilant against dengue, and to make an effort in cleaning their respective surroundings.

The DOH has been advocating the practice of “4S” to fight dengue, now considered a year-round disease, which is transmitted through a bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.

The 4S Strategy stands for Search and Destroy, Secure-Self Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, Support Fogging/Spraying.*
