The 6.6 magnitude earthquake that jolted Cataingan town in Masbate province yesterday morning, that killed a retired police officer and injured more than 40 people, was also felt in parts of Luzon and the Visayas, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said Intensity 4 was felt in Sagay City, Intensity 3 in Bago City, and Intensity 2 in Sipalay City, all in Negros Occidental.
Residents in other localities in the province, including Bacolod City, also reported that they felt the tremor, too.
Call center employees inside buildings also rushed to the streets.
The lone fatality was identified as Gilbert Sauro, a retired policeman. He died when his house in Masbate collapsed and he got buried in debris.
Houses and structures were also damaged by the tremor.*
